Pick up Color A, cutting a tail for color B to be woven in later.

Continue to knit each row, until hat measures 7-1/2” from beg.

Remove marker, BO 10 st loosely.  K18, place those stitches on a holder, BO 24 st loosely, K18, BO 10 st, cut yarn.  Join yarn and knit 18 st that remain on needles as follows:  (Knit back and forth)

Row 1:  Sl1, K2Tog, K to rem 3 st, SSK, K1. (16)

Row 2:  Purl

Rows 3 – 8:  (Repeat Rows 1 and 2) 3X.  (10)

Row 9:  Knit

Row 10:  Purl

Rows 11-16:  (Repeat Rows 1 and 2) 3X (4)

Row 17:  BO rem 4 st, leaving a 6” tail to help attach braided ties below.

Slip 18 stitches from holder onto circular needles and follow instructions for Rows 1 -17 above for rem. ear flap.

Create braided ties to attach to ends of ear flaps by cutting 18-8” pieces of yarn, dividing into 2 sections of 9 pieces each, then braid 3 strands.  Using yarn tails on ends of ear flaps, sew each tie inside end of ear flap.

Pick up color B with size I crochet hook and sc in each stitch around entire cap, including ear flaps.

Using color B, make a 3” pom pom and using tail at top of hat, attach to top as you weave in yarn tail from beginning.
